School's Mission & Ethos

Our Mission

The Read School exists to provide an education which is caring, inspiring and fun.

Our Aims
  • We aim to be the independent boarding and day school of choice in the local area.

  • We seek to care for our pupils as individuals, promoting self-respect and respect for others in a broadly Christian setting.

  • We aim to provide a first class academic education for our pupils, expecting the very best from them and supporting them in their endeavours to rise to the challenge.

  • We believe that, while academic success relative to ability is central to what we do, education is much more.  We wish to see our pupils experience a wide range of educational opportunities, which includes learning outside the classroom.

  • We seek to involve parents fully in the education of their children.

  • We seek to provide an enjoyable place for its employees to work where hard work, commitment and the desire to improve are appreciated.

Our Values

Read’s Christian tradition provides a religious ethos which is tolerant, affording all pupils the opportunity to feel accepted and valued.  The Governors are keen to maintain the School’s traditions of openness, tolerance and understanding and appropriate religious observance at Read is regarded as integral to the stated aims of the school.

We also encourage pupils to learn about other religions and allow those whose faith is not Christian to speak about and explore their own belief.  We have an approach to worship which, whilst based on the traditions, values and precepts of the Church of England, respects the faiths of all its pupils.
