Saturday 11th March Football Read v Hipperholme Grammar School
U13 Read 3 – 10 Hipperholme
U15 Read 1 – 0 Hipperholme
Although the U13 team were outplayed all across the pitch by a very skilful Hipperholme team there were a number of positives to take from the game. Dominic Walker (in Year 7) continues to grow in confidence and scored a brace of goals, his second a lovely volley from a superb cross from Tom Scholefield. Ben Abrams rounded the goal-keeper to score the first goal for Read showing composure and nice skills, Ben has really improved this season. Tom Scholefield worked really hard in the Centre Midfield position competing for everything and showing very high levels of fitness. Max Hammell was under a lot of pressure at Centre Back but stuck to the task, showed high levels of work rate and commitment and was a positive voice throughout the match, earning him the MOM award.
The U15 match was a nervous affair with the score line remaining 0 – 0 for much of the game. Read took the lead with 15 minutes remaining after Diljit Singh threaded a lovely pass through to Spencer Smith who had run off the ball tirelessly throughout the match. Spencer took a great touch taking him past the last defender, he then finished with conviction to give Read the lead. A tense 15 minutes followed with Hipperholme failing to convert a number of chances and hitting the crossbar with the last kick of the game. Congratulations to the Read boys for closing out the game and securing a well deserved win.
