About Read School
Read School has a long and distinguished history in the local area, being the focal point for the education of boys from Selby and Goole for over 340 years. It has evolved from its early foundation in the will of Charles Reade in the time of King Charles II, to the voluntary aided Drax Grammar School in the last century and on to the fine co-educational all-through Read School that we have today.
The Read School is a great place to learn. We are able to offer:
- Effective teaching in small classes, which meets the needs of the children, and pays due heed to their varying abilities and methods of learning
- A broad extra-curricular programme of sports, drama, music, art, CCF and other activities in which all pupils are involved, provides an enrichment of experience
- A pastoral care programme that provides a high level of adult support both to boarding and day children
- Inclusion of boys and girls from different backgrounds and cultures
- A culture which builds self-esteem and self-discipline, and which teaches the value of the individual within the community
- And last, but definitely not least, we enjoy the support and involvement of Read School parents in the education of their children.
