Announcements
Below are the latest messages for Old Draxonians. If you have important news you would like to share with other Old Draxonians then send us your announcements for inclusion here.
Updating of entries
Please remember when updating your details on the website to include new email addresses when applicable. Quite a few of those currently on the site appear to be out of date and your old friends will not be able to contact you!
You will have to type out your email address in the body of the email – as the email comes through a central server it is not automatically included at the top of the page!!

Mr Masoud Ghorbani has asked that this photo be displayed on the site but hasn’t given a date as to when it might have been taken. Any ideas?
Some more memories of Read School from Mr J Patrick

Front of school 1909

This photograph was sent in by Mr Bob Pugh, Old Draxonian, who says:
‘The attached picture shows the extensions to the building near completion exactly 100 years ago. As you will see the current view is similar but with the addition of more trees and lawned area in front.
The picture is a scan of a postcard in my possession sent on May 9, 1909 with additional interest in that it was sent by the Headmaster at the time, Bill Drennan to his son Basil who I imagine was aged about 5 – I don’t know if he subsequently became a pupil at the school. Bill Drennan had moved from Kirton Grammar in about 1905.’
Reunion of old Class mates
I recently made a visit to the UK from New Zealand and caught up with 14 of my classmates who were at Drax between 1949 and 1956. Almost all of which I had not seen for more than 50 years. I visited the school with Neville Stones – what a change and expansion has taken place over the years, I was very impressed.
We had a class get together in Selby, it was reported in the Selby Times, and we pored over each other’s many sports photos and Spike Moloney’s production photos, recounting stories and having a million laughs while having a bite to eat and a beer and wine at Geoff Dugdale’s home. This was all made possible thanks to Neville Stones, Jude Thurlow and Bob Adamson who made most of the contacts for me. At the reunion were John Dosser, Keith Middleton, Brian Duckles, Geoff Dugdale, Peter Palmer, Jude Thurlow, Bob Adamson, Mike Stables, Arnold Edis, Neville Stones, Alan Usher and Colin Clarke and while in the UK I visited Jos Patrick in Clevedon and Barry Hingley in Uxbridge. A thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding experience all round.

Message from Anthony Saddler, Headmaster 1985-1996
Congratulations to those responsible for improving the Old Draxonians’ website. More and more seem to be using the site which can only be good for the ODs and the school.
Mrs. S and I are very pleased to see how many of you, who were at Drax when we were, are happy and doing well. You seem, mostly(!), to have happy memories of the place. The same can be said for us too!!
Best wishes to one and all.
Message from Roger Birchall 1944-48
I would be interested to know of any other Old Draxonians who were at Oxford, especially any at University College which has a strong northern connection.
I can be contacted on
Mikado
Does anyone remember this?
