A Christmas Carol

Senior School production a huge success
This year’s offering from the Senior School was a production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, which played to full houses on two nights.
Excellent in the lead role, Philip Hammill took on the role of Ebenezer Scrooge with relish and, considering he was on the stage for almost the whole duration of the performance, did extremely well.

Other notable performances came from David Armitage as Scrooge’s nephew, Fred, and as the ghost of Jacob Marley, and from Sebastian Stafford in dual roles as Bob Cratchit and Mr Fezziwig.

The monochrome set lent itself well to the gloom of Dickensian London and set off well the more colourful scenes such as Fezziwig’s Christmas and the playing of the mummers.
Produced and directed by Neil Marshall and Angie Millard, Drama teacher Neil said:
‘This has been my first production here at Read and I have been impressed with the hard work and dedication all the pupils have put in to the show, which is what has made it such a tremendous success. Thank you to all of them for making my first production so enjoyable.’
