U13 Gabby Athraby shows her strength in defence looking for the interception

Read U13 v Silcoates (7-7 Draw)

On 4th February the Read under 13s set out to play Silcoates School. After a warm-up we got straight into the first quarter. Everyone played some good defensive play and in the end the Read girls scored 1 goal. We were up 1-0! Going into the second quarter we kept trying really hard to get the ball down to our end of the court, however Silcoates came fighting back and made us even at 1-1. Even though we tried really hard we couldn’t score! At half time we had a quick team talk and knew we had to come back fighting. We started well and scored! Albeit, Silcoates managed to get two goals in. Polly Brooks and Isobel Campbell-Baldwin scored the goals which put us up 7-3. Going into the last quarter we knew that we couldn’t stop trying! We pushed hard, however we unfortunately let Silcoates score and they kept scoring until the scores were equal. We knew we had to try hard and with some good defensive play from Lily Handforth and Gabby Athraby we stopped them from scoring again! The final score was 7-7 with some great play from everyone.

U15: Katie Watson tries to gain possession of a loose ball

Read U15 v Silcoates (Win 14-13)

The U15 girls were raring to go so early signs were promising. However, it took a while to get going and Silcoates went into an early 1-0 lead. Once the girls focussed their attention on the areas that needed more structure they went into the lead after some brilliant shooting from Abigail Senior and Katie Watson; it was proving to be a very well matched game. Annie Henry and Holly Langdale were strong through the mid-court, holding the centre passes and feeding the circle with accuracy. Silcoates were not going to give in easily and it came down to the closing seconds with the final score going in our favour after some superb defensive play from Lucy Barrick, Isla McLellan, Grace Handforth and Amy Lister. We won 14-13.
