Minimus success, maximum fun!

The end of the summer term saw the successful end to the first Minimus primary Latin club run by The Read School. The club is open to pupils in Years 5 and 6 from all Primary Schools in the Selby and Goole area and this year saw 15 pupils from Howden, Airmyn and Saxton Primary Schools, as well as pupils from Read Prep School, taking part in this fun and educational activity.

Throughout the year the children had fun learning to read and speak Latin as well as finding out about classical mythology and producing their own mosaic designs. In the final club, the children took up the challenge to act out a play in Latin, having only 30 minutes to prepare it. The results were spectacular! After the performance, all the pupils received a certificate to celebrate their achievement over the year from Head of Classics, Mrs Annette Oliver. The Minimus club will run again next year and heads of all the local primary schools should have received information on how to register pupils.

Latin was reintroduced to Read School six years ago and is going from strength to strength with 100% pass rate in GCSE. Read was also one of the schools who pioneered the new Latin Entry level qualification, again with a 100% success rate.
