Local area chair of Macmillan Cancer Support, Mrs Sallie Lockwood came into school to receive a cheque for £2100.
The presentation was made by Jacob Taylor, our Olympic Torch bearer, who has raised the money with the help of the Read School pupils. The money was raised through a sponsored walk, non-uniform days, a staff v pupils rounders match and cake stalls over the recent term, in support of Jacob’s attempt to raise money for Macmillan, by running the Edinburgh Marathon in May, and attempting the nine highest peaks in the UK over 6 days in July. There is still a considerable sum of money to come in via Jacob’s account on the Just Giving website and it will probably be the autumn before the full amount raised is known.
Headmaster John Sweetman said, ‘We are all very proud of Jacob and his achievements and it has been a pleasure and an honour for the school to help him with this extremely worthwhile venture. The whole school has pulled together to support Jacob and the amount raised is fantastic – much more than we could ever have anticipated. Jacob leaves the school now after sitting his A-Levels and is going on to university in the autumn and we wish him well with his future studies.’
