Race For Life

Inspired Read School Pupils don their trainers to do Race for Life in Doncaster

Inspired by Olympic torch-bearer and Sixth Former Jacob Taylor’s recent fundraising activities for Macmillan Cancer Support, 38 female pupils and staff from The Read School showed their support for cancer research by competing in the Race for Life in Doncaster.

Traditionally the Race for Life is run by boarding pupils at The Read School, Drax but this year a number of additional female pupils decided to take part in the 5K race which raises funds for Cancer Research UK.

“We are so proud of Jacob and the fundraising he has done on behalf of Macmillan”, said sister Alicia Taylor.   “To see him carrying the Olympic Torch through Selby was amazing.  We thought ‘it’s our turn to do something to raise money for a good cause”.

Many of the girls running in the race had very personal reasons to run, as they had lost close family members to cancer.

Of the 38 girls and female staff participating in the race, several boasted personal achievements in the race with Year 9 pupils Alicia Taylor and Freya Hornsby coming in 18th and early years teacher Sarah Campbell achieving 4th position.
