As you are no doubt aware, the success of the netball teams at U13 and U15 level is phenomenal: with barely a single loss from more than 10 fixtures between the two sides. Here below, please find a fixture report from earlier in the season for both teams taking on local Pontefract rivals, Ackworth.
This was our first netball match of the season and we arrived at Ackworth with plenty of time to spare. This allowed for a long warm-up followed by some quick half court work to sharpen ourselves in preparation for the game. However, we started slowly and took a while to gain momentum. It was closely matched but we were always slightly ahead and by half time we were fortunately in the lead. The girls reflected on where they needed to tighten play and we then picked up the pace and had some great passes sent in to Alex Collinson and Katie Watson to finish the shot. The final score was 26-6 to Read School. A fantastic first result!
The U13 girls looked nervous but after watching the U15s I hoped that they would be inspired. It was a slightly fluctuating start to the game with some great passing and interceptions from the girls and particularly from Gabriella Athraby and Georgia Beaumont in the mid-court. After some discussion about how to send the ball confidently into the circle, the shooters, Isobel Campbell Baldwin and Martha Love had more opportunities. This resulted in a successful outcome; 6-3 to Read School.
