Last Friday, 5th May we announced the official opening of the new Saddler Music Centre at The Read School. In true musical style we celebrated by hosting a concert which included three of our very talented musicians: Francesca Turton, Alice Simmons and Evangeline Barnby of Years 9 and 10. It was wonderful to hear the various musical styles which included playing instruments and singing – directed by Mrs Julie Clark, Head of Music.
The children’s appetite for music has grown from strength to strength at Read. The Saddler Music Centre has been named in honour of Mr Anthony Saddler who was headmaster at The Read School 1985 – 1996 and made a huge contribution to music in the school. The Read School are keen to encourage talent across all areas of the arts and have partnered with the Selby Arts Festival 2017, acting as sponsors and partners.
Dr Sweetman, himself pictured with Mr Saddler and Dave Edmunds (Director of the Selby Music Festival) said: ” I am delighted that we have been able to open our new music centre as part of our 350th anniversary celebrations. It will provide our pupils with a modern teaching environment as well as providing our most talented musicians with first class practice rooms in which to perform with their musical prowess”.
