Read vs Hull Collegiate at home : 2-10
On Monday morning, the Read boys strolled onto the home pitch to play Hull Collegiate, one of the best teams in our fixtures calendar.
As the game kicked off, Read grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck with Theo Chandler taking the ball and playing a pass to Sam Stephens who ran down the line and put a cross into the box for Tom Scholefield. Tom finished off the goal with a great header. However, with Read ahead by a goal Hull caught us off guard by running through our defence and scoring a goal. One-all. After this Read picked up their heads to return fire, though despite our defence’s best efforts they managed to chip in half a dozen hard-fought goals before the first whistle.
The second half was kicked off with Hull taking the ball into our half and confusing the Read defenders by passing the ball all around the pitch and effectively taking the Home team out of the game. With this controlling technique, they managed to put another 3 goals into the back of the net. It looked like there was no hope for the Read boys until the last minute when Ben Abrams took the ball in defence and did an amazing run down the line which led to the final goal scored by Sam Stephens: this was a small victory for the Greens at the end of a very tough match.
For some reason Mr Garrard gave me man of the match: thank you sir, but I think that we all played incredibly well against this very strong side.
