Boarding Options

Read is a Day and Boarding School, but we like to remain flexible and allow you to have various options to support all circumstances of student and family life.

We have a number of different boarding options available at Read; catering for international students and students who live further afield, students who live locally and would prefer a weekly boarding option, and students who may need more flexibility by offering flexi or occasional boarding.

Full Boarding

Becoming a full boarder means the fun never stops when the school bell rings! Living on campus 7 nights a week gives pupils complete access to all school facilities after hours, creating a vibrant, close-knit home away from home. Boarders benefit from seamless academic support after school hours, with access to house tutors, shared study resources, and collaborative learning spaces. Then on a weekend, Saturdays are packed with match-day energy and team sports with school friends, while Sundays are all about unwinding and diving into an action-packed activity programme.

Depending on the season, weekends are crammed with adventures! Pupils can look forward to everything from paintballing, Laser Quest, and seaside trips to bowling, cinema runs, and Christmas shopping sprees. Back at the house, there’s always something happening- think pamper nights, baking, music quizzes, Zumba, air hockey tournaments, cozy film nights, themed dinners, and summer BBQs. It’s the ultimate weekend experience with your best friends!

Boarding is great. It makes life colourful. I can do lots of things here.

Tommy Cheng – Year 8 – China

Weekly Boarding

Designed for maximum convenience, Weekly Boarding provides five nights of boarding from Monday to Friday. Pupils usually return home for the weekend after completing their Saturday sports fixtures. When no fixtures are scheduled, boarders can head home directly after Friday afternoon lessons, ensuring a seamless transition into family time.

I love the sport here. I was nervous but quickly settled in here. I have made good friends.

Richard Robinson – Year 7 – Hull

Flexi-Boarding

Designed to provide maximum flexibility for modern families, our Flexi-Boarding option allows students to board at the school for between two and four nights per week.

Flexi-boarders enjoy a permanent personal space with their own bed and term-time storage for personal belongings, eliminating the need to pack and travel every day. This arrangement gives pupils full access to our evening academic support, co-curricular programmes, and vibrant community life, offering a seamless bridge between day school and full boarding.

Everyone is really friendly. It is easy to settle here.

Josie Donaldson – L6 – Leeds

Occasional Boarding

Designed for maximum adaptability, Occasional Boarding allows pupils to board on a flexible, night-by-night basis as the need arises. Whether required for a single evening or tailored to changing weekly schedules, this option provides full access to our boarding house facilities and evening routines. Please note that occasional boarding places are strictly subject to bed availability at the time of booking.

The boarding house teaches you skills you need in everyday life when you leave school. The weekend activities can be “once in a lifetime”. It bonds us together like a family
