Welcome to Read School Pre-Prep

A Wonderful Start to a Lifetime of Learning

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. At Read School Pre-Prep, we provide a warm, nurturing and inspiring environment where children feel happy, valued and excited to learn every day.

From their very first day, every child is encouraged to develop confidence, curiosity and independence through a carefully balanced approach that combines outstanding teaching with the joy of childhood. Academic excellence is important to us, but so too is creativity, imagination, play and exploration. We believe children learn best when they feel secure, supported and inspired.

As part of the wider Read School community, our Pre-Prep provides a seamless pathway into the Prep and Senior School, ensuring continuity, familiarity and confidence as children progress through their education.

Whether you are already part of our school family or exploring schools for the first time, we invite you to discover what makes Read School Pre-Prep such a special place to begin your child's educational journey.

Small Classes. Individual Attention. Exceptional Care.

Every child develops differently, which is why our intentionally small class sizes allow our experienced teachers to understand each pupil as an individual.

By knowing every child personally, we can tailor learning to suit their needs, celebrate their strengths and gently support areas where they need encouragement. This personalised approach helps children flourish academically, socially and emotionally while building the confidence to become independent learners.

Our caring environment ensures children settle quickly, form lasting friendships and develop a genuine love of learning from the very beginning.

Acorn Class (Reception | Ages 4–5)

Inspiring Young Minds Through Exploration

Inspiring Young Minds Through Exploration

Our Reception class follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), providing the ideal balance of structured learning and purposeful play.

Children are encouraged to explore, question, create and discover within stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environments designed to inspire curiosity and build confidence.

Throughout Reception, pupils develop the foundations of literacy, numeracy and communication while learning essential life skills including resilience, problem-solving, collaboration and independence.

We also work closely with families through interactive online learning journals, allowing parents to share in the daily achievements and memorable moments of their child's development.

Oak Class (Years 1 & 2 | Ages 5–7)

Building Strong Foundations for Future Success

As children progress into Key Stage 1, they build upon their early learning through an engaging curriculum that combines the National Curriculum with creative, topic-based learning.

Lessons encourage children to think independently, ask questions and make meaningful connections across different subjects.

Alongside English, Mathematics and Science, pupils benefit from specialist teaching that broadens their experiences and develops new interests.

Learning is regularly enriched through educational visits, visiting experts and practical activities that bring topics to life and encourage children to develop confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At Read School, education extends far beyond four walls.

Every experience is designed to broaden horizons, develop character and inspire a lifelong love of discovery.

Whether exploring nature, visiting museums, taking part in performances or celebrating different cultures, our pupils are encouraged to embrace new opportunities with enthusiasm and confidence.

Outdoor Learning & Forest School

Discovering Nature Through Every Season

We believe some of life's most valuable lessons are learned outdoors.

Our children enjoy regular outdoor learning throughout the year, developing resilience, confidence and a lasting appreciation for the natural world.

Equipped with Read School Splashsuits, pupils embrace every season through practical activities that encourage exploration, teamwork, problem-solving and curiosity, whatever the weather.

Sport & Physical Development

Healthy Bodies. Confident Minds.

Physical activity plays a vital role in every child's development.

Our specialist PE programme helps children develop coordination, balance, agility and confidence through enjoyable and engaging activities including games, gymnastics and dance.

Beyond structured lessons, children remain active through outdoor play, sporting events and whole-school activities that promote teamwork, resilience and healthy lifestyles.

Most importantly, we encourage every child to discover the enjoyment of being active while developing confidence that extends far beyond the sports field.

Music, Creativity & Performance The first column.

Every Child Has a Chance to Shine

Creativity is woven throughout life at Read School Pre-Prep.

Music, drama, art and performance help children express themselves, develop confidence and discover talents they may never have realised they possessed.

Our specialist music teachers introduce children to rhythm, singing and instrumental exploration from an early age, while those wishing to progress further can take individual instrumental lessons with visiting music specialists.

Throughout the year, pupils proudly perform in productions, concerts and performances that build confidence, communication skills and unforgettable memories.

Educational visits to theatres and live performances further inspire creativity and bring learning to life.

Character, Community & Values

Developing Kind, Confident Citizens

Academic achievement is only one part of a child's education.

At Read School Pre-Prep we place equal importance on kindness, respect, resilience and compassion.

Children are encouraged to contribute positively to school life through charity fundraising, community events and collaborative projects that help them understand the importance of supporting others.

From World Book Day and European Languages Day to charity initiatives such as our annual Reindeer Run, pupils learn that they can make a meaningful difference while developing confidence, empathy and a strong sense of community.

Pastoral Care & Wellbeing

Every Child Known. Every Child Valued.

Exceptional pastoral care sits at the heart of everything we do.

Our dedicated staff build strong relationships with every child, creating an environment where pupils feel safe, supported and confident to be themselves.

We work closely with parents through regular communication, recognising that a strong partnership between home and school is fundamental to every child's success.

By nurturing emotional wellbeing alongside academic progress, we help children develop the confidence and resilience they need for every stage of their education.
